Experimental Landscape Art

by Jeni

Landscape painting for me is like drag racing. I get in front of the blank board or canvas and only stop when the full painting is done, where all feelings, thoughts, and considerations are way behind me. It all begins with having absolutely no idea of what I’m going to paint and willing myself to relax and allow the painting to unfold organically, spontaneously and intuitively. What comes next is a complete unplanned experiment, a mystery in landscape. I follow a rhythm that rises from a heartbeat of the visual world. I look for the developing landscape to feel like and sound like me, so that it resonates with my emotional or psychic space. If I look at the work and the images speak back to me so that I hear my own voice, I know that I am finished for the day.
